UNPAID RIVER RATES
MANAWATU BOARD'S THREAT
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., October C. The question of imposing a penalty of 10 per cent, on overdue rates was considered by the Manawatu-Oroua River Jionrd today. A" motion was tabled that the penalty should not be imposed, but this was withdrawn. Tho following outstanding .rates wen; reported by tho scciotary: Administrative, 1028-29, .€35 19 6d; 1931-32, £.176 9s Cd;. 1932-33, £1418 17s Cd. No. 1 area, £333 3s Id; No. 2 area, £24,3 Is 9d; No. A aioa, £297 2s Ud." The chairman, Mr, A. S. Mitchell, moved th.it the motion on the ininut>; books imposing the penalty should be rescinded. Mr. 11. J. Lancaster felt that thdVu were ratepayers who were able to pay but were sheltering behind the others. Mr. Gower suggested that the resolution should be allowed to remain, ami that tho position bo reviewed again at the next meeting of the board. Tho board decided to notify defaulting ratepayers that unless their rates were paid by a certain day this month they would bfi sued for.
