FEWER BRITISH EXPORTS

Effects of the depression have been very noticeable in the export trade of Great Britain in thoroughbred horses. Not only the shortage of money, but lome of the mean* ©f gaining additional, revenue in many. of the co'uhtriei to which exports have been made, 'Kara militated against the trade. ■■ Australia, for,example, has ita primage'duty. South Africa has a tax of £100 on each horse landed at a South African port, plut 20 per cent, ad valorem on the declared Value, or its price if bought at public auction.. ~ . ; There has been about a 25 per cent; reduction in the number of exports in"the years 1929-32,' as' compared with the period, 1925-28. In detail, a comparison from figures gleaned from the General Stud I Book shows the following to be the nun> ber of exports in the respective periods:—
