Police and summons cases were dealt with at the Magistrate's Court today by Mr. E. Page, S.M. - . ■ "I came down from the country, your Worship, and I can't stand this beer in Wellington;, it's got a kick-like a mule," said a -first offender for drunkenness. He was convicted and discharged. On a/charge of using obscene language in Cuba Street, Felix Mulligan, aged 42, was fiiied £3, in default 14' days' imprisonment. On a-further charge! of drunkenness he was convicted and discharged. Hugh Shannon, aged 51, and Frederick Smith, aged 45, were each sentenced to three mouths' imprisonment on charges of being idle and disorderly in that they had insufficient lawful means of support. Harold F. Walker was fined £5 for selling milk containing 12-per cent, of added water. The! defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs on a further similar charge and on another of selling milk that did not comply with the ' standard fixed by the regulations.. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey said- that on ! three occasions in August Inspector Bawlinson purchased milk .from'the-defendant ■in Courtenay Place. On two occasions it had a percentage..of added water and on another it did not comply with . the standard fixed by the regulations. Mr. S. A. Wylie. who" appeared for the defendant, said that Walker was the manager of a farm at Wainui-o-mata leased by a restaurant firm in Wellington. .The milk' was not brought" into' the city for sale, but for the.use of the restaurant firm. It was found that the added water in the milk had been brought about by; -an em.ployee inadvertently leaving. one of the ' taps in the cooler of the milking machine dripping. The reason why the milk was not up to standard on one occasion was I due to one of the employees, taking his allowance of milk from one of the cans without agitating it. ■■'■'■■ -' -.
