The report on the working, of the State coal mines for the year ended March 31 last, presented to Parliament yesterday, states that the gross output of the Liverpool colliery for the year was U9,2S!>'tons 1-lcwt, a reduction of -1)271 tons 4cwt when compared with tho figures for the previous year. After making allowances for stocks on hand at the beginning of the year and do-1 ducting mine consumption and waste,i there remained for disposal !)5,506 tons IScwt 3qrs. The gross output from the colliery since its inception amounts to 2,416,693 tons Scwt. ■: During the year the colliery worked on 135 days out of a possible number: of working days, of 273. Ninety-three working days were lost through lack of orders, and a strike regarding the new West Coast agreement accounted for eleven lost days. The average number of persons employed in and about the i mine ;was 335. The total expenditure in connection ■ with coal winning was £69.486 bs lid, as compared with £88^330 16s lid for the previous.year. In addition £1300 was expended on developmental work. Tae coal-hewers' gross daily earnings amounted to £1 10s lid, an increase of 3d when compared with the previous year. The average daily mine output was 735 tons 9cwt, and the coal-hewers' average daily i output was 6 tons 19cwt. In the case of tho James colliery, | the gross output for the year was 20,931 tons 3cwt, a reduction of 8037 tons 2cwt, when compared with'the figures of last year. The amount for j disposal was 29,671 tons scwt. Since j its inception the Jauies colliery has had an output of 353,838 tons 18ewt. The mine worked on. 154 days out of a possible 273, lack of orders accounting for 78 idle days. The average number of persons employed in the mine was 77.! Expenditure on coal winning amounted I to £.18,760 5s 3d,, as. compared with £23,853 17s Sd for the previous year. A sum of £1197 6s 2d was spent on boring and prospecting on the reserve between the Nine and Ten Mile Creeks. The coal-hewers' average gross daily [ earnings were- £1 8s 4d, a reduction of 3d a day when compared with the previous year. : The average daily mine output' was 194, tons 14cwt.
