WANTED—A HUSBAND

REQUEST FROM OVERSEAS

The Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, receives thousands of letters in the course of a year, and many strange communications are included in his mail at the Town Hall (states the "New Zealand Herald")- Ho receives hundreds of requests from persons seeking work, applications for donations, petitions for help in various directions, and communications that in dozens of instances havo no relation to the Mayoral position. The strangest letter, however, arrived by the last mail from overseas—a request from a woman in Wigan, England, for the Mayor to find her a husband. The letter reads:—'.'Sir, I wonder if you have any men seeking a.wife. Can you put:nie iv touch with.anyone? I am seeking a sweetheart. I am a Christian girl, Church of England, and would be the best wife to ono who would love me and.be a good pal. I have been eleven years with one family, so I know how to look after a home. My age is 41, and I would, like to go overseas. I hope you will be able to send me the name of someone." In making humorous reference to the letter, Mv.'Hutchison said he understood that there were persons who dealt with such applications : officially, and no doubt they would come to his rescue in this instance.
