FLOWER GARDEN.
Prepare the beds for planting garden chrysanthemums at the end of the month or early in November. A good rich soil containing plenty of humus and manure is required. Plant out dahlias which were lifted. The old clumps may be divided if too large. , ~ Sow annuals in (.he open ground and plant, out those which are largo enough. . . ■ .Remove dead blooms from, bulbous, plants and tie up the foliage. Stake any tall plants. Growth is generally very rapid at this season, and. much damage may be done to the soft sappy growths by heavy winds if supports are- not supplied. Plant gladioli eorms. If they are planted on a bed of sand and covered with the same there will lie less clanger o£ disease. Sweet peas require attention. Supply bushy sticks for the plants to catch on to. It is getting too late to plant shrubs and trees, except those which are balled up. The lawn requires frequent cutting and rolling.
