A WRONG IMPRESSION

LYTTELTON "FERRY"

CHANGE OF NAME SUGGESTED

(By Telegraph,—Press Association) CHRISTCHUBCH, This Day. Believing that the application of the word "ferry" to the steamer service between Wellington and Lyttelton conveys a wrong impression, to tourists, thereby discouraging them from visiting the South Island, the executive of the Canterbury Progress League has decided to write to the Union Steam Ship Company suggesting that it should find another nanie for the service. The service itself was highly praised, but the name, -it was ,felt, should bo improved. -:/ ■■' '■'■■' ; ■. The secretary of the league xead a letter from. Mr, H. Lightband, enclosing a copy 6f a letter he* had .received from Mr. H. H, Krohn, of Melbourne. "Now, in regard to that horrible misnomer of your celebrated ferry," said Mr. Krohn's letter, "I just want to emphasise that the sooner it is known that a luxury liner conveys passengers from Wellington to your charming city the sooner both Wellington and Christchurch will benefit from visitors. It is only natural that tourists to New Zealand, when they are told that si ferry is going. to convey them auross 170 miles of water, connect this with a ferry such as they know it, anything from a flatrbottomed boat to a boat of a few hundred tons. lam quite sure that many visitors to the country finish with the tour of the North Island, and perhaps on reaching Wellington and realising what your ferry is they have not the time to travel further. Therefore you will be doing a national duty in enlightening the misinformed."
