NAVAL CRUISES
ITINERARY OF SLOOPS
The two Imperial sloops H.M.S. Laburnum and H.M.S. Veronica will make prolonged cruises, in southern waters during the summer months. The Laburnum is at present undergoing refit at the Devomport naval base, and before her departure Commander A. H. Maxwell-Hyslop will relieve Commander Bamsbotham in command. The -Veronica is not due back at Auckland from her annual Island cruise until October 14. ' *
The Laburnum will leave Auckland on! November 7, and the itinerary for her southern cruise is as follows:— Port Fitzroy,' November 7 to 16; Gisborno, November 17 to 20; Wellington, November 21 to December 1; Akaroa, December 2 to 5; Lytteltqn, December 5 to 12; Timaru, December 13 to 28; Dunedin, December, 29 to January 5; Stewart! Island and West Coast Sounds, ■ Ja&uary 6 to 14; Greymouth, January 15 to 18; Westpprt, January 18 to 22; return to Auckland, January
25. On February 5, the Laburnum will leave Auckland for the Hauraki Gulf to carry out gunnery practices and also to tow the large battle-practice target for gunnery practice by other ships. She will return to Auckland on February 10 arid will leave on February 12! for ißussell, remaining there from February 13 to 20. The sloop will be at Whangaroa from February 20 to 27, and will return to Auckland on February 28. The Laburnum is due to recommission in April next year. After her return from her Island cruise tho Veronica will have only a short stay at Auckland. She will leave on November 13, and tho itinerary for her southern cruise is as follows: —Tauranga, November 14 to 20; Napier, November 21 ;to 28; Lyttelton, November 30 to. December 14; Akaroa, December '14 ■ to- • 17; Dunedin, December 18' to January 3; Picton,. January 5 to 9; Nelson, January 9 to 16; Wellington, January 17. to 29; return to Auckland, January 31. . H.M.S. Dunedin, flagship of BearAdmiral F.Burges Watson, and H.M.S. Diomede, commanded by Captain Cosmo Graham, are both on 'southern cruises at present.- They will return to Auckland on November 18 and December 7 respectively, and will remain in port over the Christmas holidays. Both criiisers'Will' pVobably carry out gunnery .exercise's in the Hauraki Gulf in February. _^
