ANGLING
THE NELSON DISTRICT
(Special to the "Evening Post.") NELSON, September 30. Prospects for the angling season which opens tomorrow are bright in the Nelson district, all the rivers' and lakes being well stocked with heavy fish. In recent years the Nelson Acclimatisation Society has carried out a policy of intensive stocking, and fishermen arc beginning to reap the benefit of this work. A greatly increased number of licences has been taken out this year, indicating the growing popularity of the sport. The Riwaka and Mangles Rivers are particularly well stocked with big fish, while the reports on the Wangamoa, Happy Valley, Maitai, Wnimea, Motueka, and Motupiko Rivers indicate that good sport is offering in them. Big fish are also reported to be plentiful on Lakes Roto Roa and Rotoiti.
For some time the Nelson Society has been endeavouring to provide a hut for sportsmen visiting the head of Lake Roto Roa, and this is now an accomplished fact, the result of generous donations in cash and materials. A party of Nelson enthusiasts erected the hut.
