(Received October 2, 2 p.m.) LONDON, October 1. A La Kbchellc message states ' that France's hell ship Le Martiniere sailed tonight with a load of 670. caged convicts bound for Devil's .Island. It, was rumoured that the convicts intended to mutiny prior to embarkation, so they wore relieved of their shoes and made to walk in clogs to the quayside, escorted by troops with fixed bayonets. Ono murderer, Boyer, had been literally within minutes of death' this morning. He was due to be guillotined when the news came of • President Doumer's assassination. Consequently, the new President could not .consider the petition for commutation without a new trial. Boyer was , given tha benefit of the doubt and sent to Guiana.
