COMPENSATION CASES
In the Arbitration Court yesterday afternoon Robert Goodie made a claim against the New Zeahtud Express Co., Ltd., for compensation .for injuries sustained arising out of litis employment. Oii May 5, 1933, tho plaintiff, while in the employ of the defendant company as a driver, slipped off the step of a wagon, jarred his. knee, and injured the lower part of tho right leg. As a result of tho accident he stated that he had been disabled from the date of tho accident tilll tho present time; he was advised th|at his present disablement would continue for some time to come, and that, he would be permanently partially disabled. The plaintiff received from t&e defendant company compensation at' the rate of £2 18s 8d a week until July 14, since which (late the defendant company had neglected or refused ;to pay further compensation. The plaintiff claimed further compensation, and an allowance for permanent I'EU'tml disablement. The statement of defeiijcc asserted that from July 21 the plaiintiff was fit for light work, and that h»e was fit to follow his ordinary avoteation of a driver as from August MS. The defendant offered to pay the plaintiff further compensation as follows:—One week at tho rate of £2 18s -Sd and four weeks at the rate of £1 9s 4d a week, J but the plaintiff refused to- accept the same. Mr. O. C. Mazengarb appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. W. H. Cunningham for the defendant comjpany. After hearing evidence ' the Court awarded compensation for a further four weeks, costs, and medictal fees.
