KNITTED SILK TIE AND PAIR OF SOCKS

With a thought for the man's wardrobe directions are given this week for knitting a silk tic and a pair of socks. MAN'S KNITTED SILK TIE. Materials.—l^oz of silk, four No. IS needles. Begin by easting on 56 stitches, 18 on to two needles and. 20 on the third. Join and work in rounds and knit until the work measures 12in. In the next round decrease at tlie beginning of tho first and third needles and continue to dcerease in every other row in this fashion until there are 20 stitches loft. Keep the second needle for the front of the tie. Knit on these 26 stitches for 13in and then.increase ono stitch at the beginning of the first and third, needle in every other row until there are 44 stitches. AVork on this end of tho tie in the same manner as at the beginning until it measures lOin from the increase. Cast off and sew up the ends. MAN'S SOCKS. Materials. —3oz 3-ply wool. Four No. 13 needles. For size 7 shoe. Begin by casting on 72 stitches, 24 on to each of three needles. Bib 2 plain, 2 purl for four inches. Change to plain rounds and knit until the work measures llin from the beginning. Divide stitches. in halves for the heel, 36 on the two instep needles and 36 on one needle at tho back for the heel. Second needle: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the needle. Third needle: Knit to within 3 of the end of the needle, knit 2 together, knit 1. Knit 2 plain rounds. Repeat the last three rounds until there aro 20 stitches left on either needle at the front and 10 on each of the needles at the back. Slip the stitches from the needles at the back on to one needle and graft the toe together. Make another sock to match and press them both carefully. . ,
