"AMAZING DECISION"
TARLETON AND EDWARDS
Following the leferee's amazing decision in favour of .Llew .Edwards at Melbourne Stadium on September 16, Nel. Tailcton made a spirted protest, and offered to lodge £500 with the National Bo\ing Club as a sidewager for a return contest. But Tarlcton stipulate^ the return contest must bo in Sydney or 'under another referee other than Bill JLkng, "who had charge of the fight in Melbourne, states' a Sydney'wftter, The National Boxing Club will give Tarleton his opportunity for a return contest. "In the meantime," remarked manager Mike Marre, "Tarleton will fight Tod Morgan in Sydney next Monday night, and, no matter what the result of that fight may be, we shall match Tarleton again, with EdwaTds." Tarleton's defeat by Edwards was almost as big a surprise as when Jimmy Kelso made history by outpointing Al Fofeman^at Leiehhardt. Only' in Kelso's ease theft was* no possible doubt. But; according to accounts, it is doubtful if Edwards . won a round against Tarleton, Thero appears to have been little or no interest in the result after the fourth round, when Edwards had his left eye cut open. In the circumstances Bill Lang's decision will not be taken seriously in Sydney, and the only way to settle the argument is to put both boxers in the ring under another referee. Judging Edwards, by his poor display against Johnily Petifs, and Tarletbn- by his brilliance against Jimmy Kelso, it seems almost incredible that Tarleton should go under to Edwards. But incredible things do happen in the boxing game.
