INFLATION'S LATEST

WIN AT HAWKESBURY,

(From "Vedette.") ' SYDNEY, September 25. •{ Inflation duly defeated the moderates at Hawkesbury on Saturday, but it was not so impressive an effort as that of the three-year-old AA 7aikare in the concluding event. Inflation, ridden by T. Green, ran his mile in lmin 39} see on a hard, fast track. He went down sore oh his way to the post, and in the race had his ears back on several occasions, as if he was feeling the hard track with his doubtful feet. A. D. Webster has. a job in front of him to get him to the post for the Epsom Handicap. It is unfortunate that he is not thoroughly sound, for he is a splendid type now and a credit, to the Dominion. AVaikare had 8.12 in the Welter Mile which ho won in lmin 39Jsec. The brother to Agriou had to show sterling qualities to win, for when the leader, Assertive, ran wide at the turn he carried out Agrion. Half-way down the short straight older horses—Pantilla, recelvinb 81b, and Australian Bee, receiving 61b—headed AVaikare. AVhen McCarten took up his whip, however, the three-year-old came again and won well by a-head. He Is owned like Bay Tree by Mr. E. J. AA ratt and is one of the five of G. Price's Derby candidates nt present. The others are Blixten, Shakuni, Deputy - Euler, and Safari. Thus four of the five were bred in New Zealand.
