LOCAL CUSTOMS REVENUE

THIS MONTH'S FIGURES

The net Customs revenue collected I at. tho port of AVellington this month showed n. drop of nearly £20,000 as compared with September last year, tho figures being £144,557 and £163,802 respectively, an actual decrease of £19,245. So far this year Customs revenue has yielded £1,405,095, as against £1,544,543 for the corresponding period of 1932, a fall of £138,848. The duty collected on motor spirit this month amounted to £51,682, compared with £43,021.f0r September last year. Tho increaso is accounted for by tho fact that the tax on petrol to produce revenue for the Consolidated Fund was increased last February from 4d to Gd. At Gd per gallon, petrol proIduced £31,009 this month for tho I Main Highways Fund, as against I £32,266 from this source in September last year. At 2d per gallon £10,755 was collected in September, 1932, and £20,673 at 4d per gallon this month, tho latter sum being included in the Customs figures given above. So far this year £506,707 has been collected in petrol tax, as against £433,527 for the first nine months of last year, an increase of £73,180. TIRES PRODUCE MORE. Collections of tire tax this month totalled £1596, as against £1296 for September last year, an . increase of £30T). The figures for the first nine months of this year and last are £12,815 and £13,988, a decrease of £1173. Beer excise for this month amounted to £4435, a decrease of £31 on September last year. So far. this year beer has produced £37,243, as against £44,423, a decrease of £7180. Collections of sales tax this month j amounted to £49,174, compared with j £40,865 for last month, £42,853 for July, and £45,434 for June. |
