(Beceived September 26, 10 a.ni.)

PABIS,. September 25.

America defeated Prance by ■ four matches to one in the professional tennis tourney, the games including Barnes v. Plaa, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1; Tilden v. Coehet, 6-3, 6-4,. 6-2; Tilden: and Barnes v. Coehet and Plaa, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Despite his age, 40, against Cochet's 32, Tilden reproduced his old form and completely outplayed and outlasted the Frenchman, who failed to stand the strain of the terrifically fast first set. Coehet was unable to cope with the speed of Tilden's returns.
