The weather forecast issued at noon today is optimistic enough to hold out tlio "hope that several days of. .lino weather' may be expected. Since"lust night an anticyclone from the Tasiuan Sea has covered the New Zaeland area, and the prospects arc for fair to flue weather generally, although there may bo some passing showers at first along the i-utfjt between C'ahtlcpoint and East Cape. 'Winds will be southerly in direction and generally light to moderate, although still strong in exposed positions in the iN'orth Island. Winds, however, will be decreasing in strength, and they will soon be becoming more variable over the South Island. Cold night temperatures are probable, and inland frosts may be expected, some hovcro ones occurring in. tho South Island.

Yesterday's weather was cold and unpleasant in most districts, the western part of the South Island being the only :<rua where lino weather was gOneral. A fresh to strong ; southerly wind brought showers to scattered places, but tho rain was confined mainly to the coastal districts, and was mostly light. There wero some heavy falls, however, butween Gisborue and East Oapc. "Since last night, owing to the influence of iho anticyclone, conditions have greatly improved. Showers this morning 'were ronfined to. the coast between Cape Palliser and East Cape, tho weather clsewhero being generally fair to fine. The southerly winds today arc much loss strong than they, were yesterday, and temperatures have become less keen generally.

Auckland experienced cold and mostly cloudy weather yesterday, with a fresh south-westerly wind. Sonic showers fell during the afternoon, but tho night was clear.

. A strong southerly wind made conditions cold and unpleasant in Wellington. Soino rain fell yesterday morning and again early this morning, the fall at Kclburn totalling seven points and in Lower Hutt 13 points. The sun shone for 2.9 hours yesterday afternoon, and the weather today was beautifully lino again, althoug' cool.

Unsettled, and squally weather with a cold south-westerly wind was the lot of Christchureh yesterday, rain and hail showers falling until early in the afternoon. There was another shower at about 11 p.m., but conditions then cleared, and thero was a slight frost during the night. '

Dunedin had bright sunshine yesterday morning, but the afternoon was overcast and showery. The wind there was a moderate south-westerly
