FLOWERS AND BEADS
A cordial welcome was extended to Miss Maddiver (federation president) and visitors from Wellington, at the recent meeting of tho institute at Wainui-o-matii. Mrs. Callis and Mrs. G. O. AVood were appointed delegates to attend the half-yearly meeting to be held iv Otaki, and it was decided to enter for the poster competition at the conference.
Miss Maddever gave an interesting talk on institute work, speaking of the aims and ideals, and answering many questions. She also demonstrated the making of crepe paper flowers, a beautiful water-lily being shown, and also bead necklaces made from dyed macaroni. Mrs. Harvey sang two delightful songs. Mrs. Boyes and Mrs. Heathcote were selected to represent Wainui on the Hutt Valley group. A competition was held for the best apron made from a yard of unbleached calico, the- decoration being left to members. ' Some beautifnl work was shown. Miss Molly White gained the first prize, and Mrs. Dick and Miss Ngari Wood both equal, second. A dainty tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Apperly, Burrows, Harvey, and Podersen. A hearty vote of thanks to Miss Maddever, who was presented with flowers by Miss Margaret AVood, concluded the interesting afternoon.
