HOTEL LICENSEE FINED

DIFFICULTY OF WOMEN'S ACE

(By Teleeraph.—Press Awociatfon.)

CHRISTCHUBCH, This Day. Mr. E. D. Mosley, fe.M., was baffled this morning when he was called on to judge the age of three young' women: and decide whether or not they were under twenty-one. Ho thought one might be 21, but as far as the others were concerned "it is exceedingly difficult at first glance to tell the age of women nowadays," he remarked. Because of this doubt he dismissed a charge of selling liquor to persons under 21, preferred against Thomas Aspell, licensee of the Eastern-' Hotel. Aspell, however, pleaded guilty to selling liquoi; after hours, and was fined £3 and costs* The, police said that the offence occurred on' Sunday, September 17. The' girls were in company with three sailors of the cruiser Canberra. All wer* quite sober when they left in a taxicab for the Port Hills v When this taxi was involved in an accident later id' the evening the party came under th« notice of the police. :.' ■* '
