HIDES AND SKINS SALES.
Moderate-sized catalogues were oiiereil to the usual number of buyers at the fortnightly saJe of hides aud sheepskins lield by Wellington wool brokers yesterday. Competition was animated, tlie demand fjr sheepskins being strong and general, prices advancing Vid and at times Vad on previous quotations. Damaged and inferior short woollen lots were a triile easier. Salted skins, of which there was only a small oiforing, showed a corresponding rise. There was good inquiry for all grades and descriptions of hides. As compared with late rates heavies, mediums, and light weights were easier by l-8d to %d, while kip aud yearlings declined up to Vsd. Calf met a weaker market, values generally being lower by %d to %d. lair supplies of tallow were sxibmitteil, prices being fully linn on late rates. ■The following is the range ot prices:— Dry Sheepskins.—Half bred, 7d to lOd; fine crossbred.
