FIRE PROTECTION

KHANDALLAH STATION

FUTURE EXPANSION

The Fire Board today approved plans submitted by the board's architect, Mr. W. Turnbull, for the new, fire station at Khandallah, and decided to call for

tenders.

ThJe site is in Agra almost opposite Ganges Koad, and is so situated that machines will begin, .their runs on a downward grade in pither direction. Moreover, the site is within a mile and a half of Jdhnsonville,. and though this area is at present beyond the Fire Board boundaries an arrangement has been suggested by the,Johnsonville people whereby they may share in the fire protection service.,

.The,present proposal is to erect a building of a single storey well, back on the section, in such a way that when extensions are required this portion will, with no major alterations, form the rear part of the completed building, the front part being two storeys high. The single> storey part will provide accommodation for engine and plant, and quarters for the station personnel and officers. There is an ample space around the station. .The estimated cost of this section of the building was stated originally at £600, but it has been thought wiser to make the station, (in Teinforced concrete) more resistant to possible earthquake strains, and the present, estimate is that the building will cost about £800. ; ■■■•■.;•.;.•■.

As the station will stand in a residential district, the plans for the completed building: depart somewhat from conventional fire station design, and provide' for a frontage Bet back' from the street line about 20 feet* as in the case of a- large residential property, with necessarily an over-size front door, but this development may not come for a good many years, depending, of course, upon the, rate of development of the district.
