NAVY SHIELD
Ten years ago the Auckland Football Association presented the Navy Shield; for; competition between' the Australian' and' the New Zealand navies whenever an opportunity occurs; Four matches have been played, the New Zealanders having won' the first three and the last, match, which was played at. Auckland recently, having been drawn, 2-2. A letter from the Auckland Football Association which was received by,the management committee, of the. Wellington Football, Association at its meeting last night said that the match at Auckland was a most thrilling encounter. The gate was the best of the season and 'the game; was a splendid advertisement forthecode. Auckland urged that another such match should be played in Wellington, af possible; It asked' the Wellington association to present to the New Zealanders the, medals it had been decided to give; ,to; them as holders; of the shield,, a suitable, opportunity for the presentation not havinc occurred -in Aucklandi, : ~ The secretary (Mr. B.:A. Mabin). saidr that a match could not be arranged, as H.M.S. Dunedin was to leave on Saturday, morning. • . ~ It was decided to arrange for the presentation of the medals either by the; president of the Wellington association (Mr J. J. Roberts) or by the chairman (Mr":W. B. Hicks). :.
