BELIEF WORKERS
MEETING AT OTAKI
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
OTAKI, September 21
A meeting of relief workers at Otaki on Monday evening, presided over by Mr. R. Madilock, decided" to hold a shop day on Saturday, October 14, to raise funds. ■'■ The meeting directed a good deal of attention to the matter of camps,- the subject being opened by Mi. Downic, who hud attended a conference at Patmcrston North. It was agreed that tho committee should discuss the matter and bring down a report'to be' submitted at a general meeting. It was mentioned that Mr. Downie hud also attended a meeting of the New Zealand Legion. It was stated that the Legion .at present had no definite proposals, but one- never knew what would occur, and if there were any good suggestions the workers should give every support. Strong exception was taken to a relief worker having been ordered to a camp at Ohakune. The man had volunteered to go into camp, and naturally though it would be at Hautcre, which was in.his own district. The view was expressed that men in such cases should not be sent to camps outside their own district, and that it was up to citizens to see that men were not sent away- from their districts. It was bad enough to expect a man to go into camp. A motion condemning the camp scheme in general was carried.
