NEW BRITISH SWITCHBOARD

RUGBY, September 19. General Post Office engineers have just completed the installation of a new type of telephone switchboard, whereby London subscribers can', obtain, a trunk call to any part of Great Britain practically as quickly as they can get a local number.

The principle on which this new "on demand" system ( works is that the same operator who accepts the call carries the connection right through to its destination.

Similar facilities to all big cities in Europe will be available in a few weeks. This stage will be facilitated by the new Anglo-French telephone cable laid two days ago,
