YOUTH'S LUCKY ESCAPE

STRUGGLE WITH INTRUDER

CHEISTCHUKCH, This Day.

A shooting sensation is reported'from Kirwee. Allott Caygill Gallagher, aged 19, soil of a farmer, was shot above the" heart by an intruder whom ho found in his father's garage when he returned late from a meeting in the township. There was a brief struggle, and the intruder fired after dropping a swag, and escaped.

Mr. Gallagher , was admitted to hospital, and his condition is satisfactory,

Gallagher had a remarkable escape from death. The bullet is embedded in his left breast. 'Ho is conscious and has related his story to the police.

Gallagher was shot while pluckily grappling with a man whom he found lurking in the farm, buildings. He saw tho man'making away with a .swag, chased and caught him. The two men struggled for a brief period. The man then whipped out a firearm of some description and shot Gallagher, and afterwards escaped over the .paddocks at the back of the farm buildings. The swag, which contained a number of articles, including the distributor from the family car, arid the magneto from a tractor, was dropped in the man's haste.

Gallagher shouted for help but was not heard by tho,se inside tlio house as a high wind was blowing. Tho youth struggled, gamely across the yard and up the path to the Back door, where his knocking was heard and tho members of the family came rushing to see what was wrong. A doctor and the police were immediatoly summoned.

The police are searching the district for the assailant. '
