KILBIRNIE FORESHORE
(To the Editor.)
Sir, — I agree entirely with My. Hutchinson's letter regarding the construction of a new road behind the Patent Slip. The chief advantage gained would undoubtedly be the carting of the spoil, as the foreshore is adjoining. There are several bad bends which could cheaply be filled in and the road widened between the Patent Slip and the Kilbirnie Baths. But, as wo all know, the authorities will say they have no money. Another thing they might Ray is that the road is not an jabsolutb necessity.
In the meantime, while the authorities are considering the matter, I would recommend a job vhjchis an_ urgept. necessity: the construction of la light wall about five feet high and about twelve inches thick between i\\e Kilbirnie Post Office and the power-house running parallel with Seatoun Road, with openings without gates opposite the various street intersections, the wall to be about mid' way between* Seatoun ; Road and highwater mark. The City Council could plant suitable trees such as Norfolk pines, karakas, and pohutukawas on both sides. I am sure that the public would supply the seats for both sides of: the wall. This work is an urgent necessity: it would give shelter to the mothers' and children who use the foreshore. F feel sure that 31 r. Semple and »11 tlie other Wellington members will support this proposal. The Kilbitnie foreshore 'sit present is a disgrace.--I am. etc-., THOMAS M. ILI;KIv]':,
