SCOTTISH WIN

VOSSELER SHIELD RACE

Splendid performances wcie registered by representatives of the Scottish Harrier Club in the strenuous annual contest for the Vosscler Shield, held over two laps o£ the Vosseler Course at Lyall Bay on Saturday afternoon. Scpttish took the first five places, and other members of the club finished eighth, ninth, tenth, fifteenth, and seventeenth. The Wellington provincial champion, A. L. Stevens, ran home a comfortable winner irom his clubmate, Ct. Porkhouse. The Brooklyn Club, which easily ■nou the team honours in the Wellington pro■vincial championships last month, did not field a team. There were four teams and a few individualists. Scottish were clearly superior to the others, and the result was that the real contest in the teams section was between Wellington, Olympic, and Hutt Valley. Olympic pecured tecond place, with Wellington third. ' The distance o£ the race was ten miles. Stevens won by about 180 • yards from Parkhouse. Individual placing^ were as follows: — A. L. Vosseler at the conclusion of the race. 'VARSITY CLUB. On Saturday afternoon the 'Varsity Club started from Weir Hostel, Kelburn. The course went dowtf Tinakori and Grant Roads, then up the usual route to Wadestown, climbing to the summit of the Tinakori hills, from where it descended into Northland and crossed the viaduct back home. The fast pack under F. B. Shar- , land conceded a ten minutes' &tart to the slow pack, under K. Reid, and overhauled it on the home side of Northland. Next week's rim will be from Wailcstown. BROOKLYN CLUB. The Brooklyn Harrier Club held one of its most enjoyable runs of the season. The club members were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pederson, Ilia Hanson Street. There waa a good muster of 35 runners. The trail-layers, R. Cowie and D. Pederson, set a strenuous, hilly trail of about nine miles, and wore followed by three packs under N. Smellie, A. Naulls, and E. Daviet>. After the run afternoon tea was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Pederson, who were thanked on behalf of the club by the patron. 'Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.
