The death has occurred of Mr. Thomas Eankin, of No. "A3 York Street, Lower Hutt, at the age of .47 years* The late Mr. Eankin, who was born at St. Ann's, Belfast, joined the Royal Navy in 1907, and served as a stoker rating in His Majesty's ships Acheron, Bulwark, Duncan, Lancaster, Blenheim, Mosquito, Commonwealth, Vanguard, Cressy, St. George, Wellington, Vigorous, and Hecla. He had a commemorative jnedal for the earthquake in Italy, 1908;, and the British War and Victory; Medal* and the 1914-15: Star. He, is-.survived by a widow.and three children;' ' Air. Clement May has accepted the invitation of the Hawke's Bay branch of the British- Drama League to ae-t as adjudicator at the forthcoming festival iv the Hawke's Bay district,'to bo held at Hastings. . .•'. ■ The appointment is announced of-Mr. Henry Alexander Lamb, senior Supervisor of the accountants' branch of thtV General Post Office, Wellington, to' the position of grand ■ secretary' "-of;:; thtj Grand Lodge of' Freemasons, of .;-'New Zealand, in Succession to Colonel Barclay, who recently resigned; Mr. Lamb joined Lodge Waterloo No. 13 over, seventeeu years ago, became Worshipful Master in 1920, and was installed as first principal of tho Waterloo Royal Arch Chapter in 1930. He also'holds office in the Wellington Rose. Croix . Chapter, and is a^member of the Charles Fergussou Prcceptory of Knight' Templars. Mr. W.'O'Connell, who for the past six years has been district manager of the Wellington Tourist Bureau^ has been promoted to the managership of the Government Hostel at Waitoino, /and will enter, into his new duties on Tuesday next. Mr. .Q'Connell,. who '■ commenced Ms service as a cadet in ', the Tourist Department, : enlisted^ in-' th'o ranks at the outbreak, at -the Great War,-served for four and a half years, and earned a commission on the iJekU ,On returning to civil life, ho acted as district manager at Invercargill for a. time, was promoted to a similar position at Duncdin, and later to the office he is now vacating. At the conclusion, of business, yesterday, Mr. O'Connell was waited on by the staff of the Wellington Tourist Bureau and presented with a token of their regard..". E^clt of the speakers stressed the point that; Mr. O'Connell had not only been ait efficient and able officer, of the- Department, but ho had been, in his dealings with the staff that had served under, him, just and considerate as a .superior officer, and a kindly personal friend to all of them, dn his icsponse, Mr*. O'Connell said that ho had been for-v tunate in having had such loyal support from the members.of the staff, and when called upon to make an extra effort they invariably had done so* ungrudgingly and without stint;'. Mr. O/Con* nell was also tho recipient of a pre^eu* tation from tho members of the head office of tho Department, of Industries,Commerce, Tourist, and Publicity. The occasion of Mr. W. Neil. Fuller 'A retirement after a period of seventeen years from the staff oi Messrs. Levm and Co., Ltd., was marked by a very; pleasant function last evening. Speaking, on behalf of the staff, Mr. Harold Pearce referred to the long rind'satisfactory service Mr.' Fuller had given to the firm. He mentioned that Mr* Fuller's father had also served the firm for many years, the total. service . or. father and son being well over seventy years. Whilst his departure, was a matter of regret to all concerned,.Mr.' Fuller was leaving to start in business on his own account under the title, op Messrs. Fuller-Lipton, Ltd., in Wellington, so that they -would harfe many opportunities of being in touch with him. In making a presentation from the start Mr. Pcarec congratulated Mr. Fuller ou his initiative and enterprise in' starting business for himself, and wished the new firm every success in the future. Mr; Fuller suitably replied.
