With a total of 102 nominations, by far the greatest number ever known in the history of the fixture, the New Zealand boxing championships opened tonight before a crowded house. Twenty out of the twenty-nine affiliated associations that have been active during the season have sent teams to contend for the eight titles open for competition, and the contestants hail from all parts of the Dominion, from the far north to the extreme south. Special interest attaches to the tournament this , year ■on account of the fact that shortly after its conclusion the new champions will form the team to represent New Zealand at Brisbane against the champions of Australia.
