FORGERY ALLEGED

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TE AEOHA, August 17. In the Police Court today, Albert Edward Wight and Andrew John Arkle, well-known residents of Te Aroha, were charged wjth conspiring to defraud the Te Aroha Building Society of sums of money amounting to £IG. Some time ago the former secretary of the society absconded, and defalcations were detected. The prosecution alleged that Wight and Arkle took advantage of this fact and forged the secretary's initials to entries in passbooks for payments that were never made in fact. The accused reserved their defence, and were committed for trial at Hamilton, bail being allowed.
