OVERSEAS FREIGHTS
HOPES OF 810 REDUCTIONS
(Special to the "Evening Post.") FEILDING. This Day. At the annual meeting of shareholder! of the Cheltenham Co-operative Dairy Company yesterday, the chairman (Mr. C. G. C. Dermer) touched upon the negotiation* for a new overseas freight contract, Btating that while the result was not yet available, there was every likelihood of a reduction. There was urgent necessity for a. substantial reduction in freight charges to bring them more in keeping with the low values ruling for primary produce.. In support of this, Mr. Dermer quoted the following figures:—New Zealand to United Kingdom butter, per box 1913, 2s 6d; 1932, 3s 4.8 d; increase, 36 per cent. Cheese, per lb 1913 0.5 d; 1932, 0.74375 d; increase 48.74 per cent. Factory payout: Butter, 1913-14, 14.38 d; 1932-33, 9d; decrease 37.4 per cent. Cheese, 191304, 12d; 1932-33, lOd; decrease 16.6 per cent. These figures-were very telling, said Mr. Dermer, who expressed .the hop* that an announcement would be made shortly that substantial reductions.had been obtained.
