WELLINGTON'S TREASURES

ASSISTANCE FOR Y.W.C.A,

.The anticipation of seeing so many of AVellington's treasures assembled under ono Toof, drew a very large crowd to the Loan- Exhibition of Antiques, which was opened by his Excellency the Governor-General last evening. A whole 'floor of Austin House, AVakefield Street, had been appropriated for the arrangement of the exhibits, which included many rare and beautiful pieces of furniture and china. The exhibition had been organised by a committee, to raise funds for the Y.W.C.A. in Wellington, and the success of last evening's .function was a very promising beginning to tho season, during Which the exhibition will bo open. x One exhibit which attracted much attention .and admiration was a quaint old sedan chair (lent by Mrs. D. H. 8. Biddiford). This was upholstered in beautiful brocade,, and in it was seated a very dainty lady who wore a frocK 6f lovely old rose brocade and exquisite lace, winch had been worn by Lady Elizabeth Sti Glair (great-aunt of the present owner, Miss.Butts), at the laßt ball given in tli'e, Tuileries by the Empress Eugenic. Many years later it was worn by Miss Butts at the famous fandy dross ball given in AVellington by Lord and Lady Ranfurly. Their Excellencies the GovcrnoiGeneral and Lady Bledisloe, who were accompanied by Captain J. AY. Tweedie and Miss Diana Harris, were met ana escorted into the hall by the chairman, Mr. AY. M. Page, and members of tha committee. Two attendants in period costumes (Misses Kirsty Page and Betty Taylor) also escorted their Excellencies. • : Her Excellency wore a lovely irocK of leaf'green angel-skin lace under a white fur coat. Miss Diana Harris wa? in a frock of old gold georgette. Members of the committee present 'we're' Miss Bridgman.(who wore a black frock and black coat trimmed with beige fur), Mrs. C. V.
