POISON GAS WARFARE
INCREASED PROTECTION
LONDON, August 10.' The "Daily Herald" says that a group of British scientists, working ia a specially-erected laboratory in London, have evolved' a gas mask giving protection for one hour from the dead* liest poison gas war chemists have yet discovered. . German, French, and Dutch chemists thus far have only evolved a mask giv ing immunity for five minutes from th» gas known as diphenylarsine, or pepper gas, because it is discharged into the' atmosphere in fine powder form, which at the time of its invention penetrated all the masks then constructed. The "Herald" states that cupreine- if the basic material of the new British maskj but the method of application ia a profound secret, though the fact that the mask is successful is already known*
