BRITISH SAILORS' SOCIETY.
Another very enjoyable concert was given at the room- of the British Sailors' Society on Wednesday, and there was a large and enthusiastic audience of men. The programme was arranged by Mrs. Crawford. Piano duets were given by Mrs. Crawford aud Miss Barry; violin solos by Mr. Lyon; dances by Misses Ward, Bartlett, Wallen, and Joy Vardey; songs by Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Smith, Miss Baird, and Miss Ryan, and Messrs. Wilson, Evans, and Master Jim Mawby; and recitations by Misses Wright and Campbell. A vote of thanks to _ Mrs. Crawford and party was carried with acclamation, supper was served by the young ladies of the society, and the evening clo6ed with the singing of "God Save the King."
As a result of representations made to the Britisli Museum by the trustees of the Melbourne Gallery,: a'valuable collection of.relics une'artlied by the 'British expedition to the ancient site of Ur has beeu given to the gallery, ~
