SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.
An intense westerly depression with a considerable northern extension has crossed, the Dominion and the' high north-west winds of yesterday have backed to south-westerlies sine* last night.' Unsettled, boisterous condition! hare been experienced with fairly .general rain, heavy falls having occurred In th« night at many places. In Westland many of the rivers were in flood this morning. On the east coast,of the South Island, however, only a few scattered showers have been, reported. Snow, has also fallen on some of the high levels of both Islands, and at 9 a.m. today ..tt was snowing at Tainape and Nugget Point.
