Grecian' Prince was unusually docile' when' parading before the Paparuai Handicap at Riecarton on Tuesday, and V his rider, J. VV.. Jennings, had no, .trouble in riding him round the birdcage and tak> ing'hint' out for his preliminary. This part of the business completed, however, he took charge of his pilot and bolted round the course, eventually ■■running' into a fence near the "mile and a quarter barrier and giving Jennings a severe fall. Jennings was rendered unconscious for a whi.'e, and was brought in in the ambulanci'v After treatment he recovered^ but was not able to carry out his remaining riding engagements, which, included those on Chief Light and Strong Light. Grecian 'Priuce was returned to the enclosure, and A. -Mcsservy was requisitioned, and took the mount. It is said that lately he has done all his work on ». martingale, but one was not used on Tuesday, which probably accounted for his boltiug.
