CHILDREN'S PLAY AREA
ISLAND BAY PROTEST
The action of the City Council in closing the children's play area at Island Bay was criticised at the annual meeting of the Island Bay Municipal Electors' Association last evening. Mr. C. F. Lethaby, who presided, said that a petition signed by a small number of people—about nine—^had been presented to the City Council asking that the play area at Island Bay should be closed on Sundays. The council had effected a compromise by keeping the area closed on Sunday mornings and opening it on Sunday afternoons. To his mind, play areas for children should be kept open every day of the week and closed only at night. He thought the ratepayers had some right to object to the morning being taken away from the children, and he would like to see the association's executive take the matter up again with the council with a request that the play area at Island Bay should be open to the children and the citizens generally every day of the yeek 4
