WESTPORT'S JUBILEE
Westport, the , Dominidn's leading coal-exporting port, has attained the sixtieth anniversary of its birth as a. municipality, and on August 20 it will be. sixty years sinco^ the first meeting of the "Westport Borough Council was held, states tho "Christchurch Press." Tho .actual date of the town being gazetted as a borough was April 22, 1873, but citizens of the municipality are inclined to regard tho sitting of the first council as the more important event, and have discussed appropriate celebrations for that date. However, the town is now engaged' in ah enthusiastic and successful effort to secure funds for the relief of 'distress in the district, and it has been decided to postpone recognition of the anniversary until later this ye,ar. .
