THE LEATHER MARKET.
W. Weddel and Co.. London, reporting on the leather market early in July, stated that it was satisfactory, but the demand was quieter. "There is really not much likelihood of any weakness in the leather market seeing that raw hides are on such a firm basis, and the tanner/ will probably be able to make full use of this before long. Tanners had become very frightened at the recent relapse of the big markets, and adopted a .very careful attitude, consequently they had been content to Bell their leather at late rates without attempting to establish higher prices. "The policy seems to bo to move steadily to sell' as and when possible, ignoring the prospects of having to pay more for raw material in due, course,"-
