WINTER SPORTS
The Tararua Tramping Club's annual winter sports Trill be held at National Park from.August 19 to August 29, and it is expected that there will be' about fifty members of the club making the trip. The i, Tararua ski championship shield, which is at present held by Mr. D. Macpherson, of Palmerston North,; will be competed for, and there will alsq Be a new downhill championship event* for?whieh a shield has been given by Mr, D. Macpherson. It is expected that a feY members of the club will take part in th# Aorangi Ski Club's, meeting at the Tas" man Chalet, which takes place from August 18 to August' 28. One or two members may be present at the New Zealand ski championships which are being held at Mount Cook this year immediately after the Aorangi Club's fixture. Several members of tho Tararua Tramping Club also intend to visit the ski-inj? ground on the Tararuas behind Otaki. A. small ski-ing ground is available alongside the Kime Memorial Hut, and usually the snow is suitable for ski-ing practice, although so far this season the snowfalls have been disappointing. However, therft is still plenty of time for good ski-ing.
