FRUIT EMBARGO ENDORSED.
Whangarei Chamber of Commerce has dealt with and approved a communication from the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, giving the opinion that if the embargo against Australian citrus fruits were lifted it would have the effect of crippling, it not entirely ruining, the New Zealand industry In this connection, the letter continued, the acting-Prime Minister and the Minister of Agriculture had been approached and urged that measures be taken to prevent the lifting of the embargo. The member of Parliament for the Whangarei district, Mr. A. J. Murdoch, said there was always the danger that the embargo would be lifted, and strong agencies were at work for this purpose. He stressed the fact that local growers had been nearly ruined" about two years ago when Australian fruit and vegetables had been dumped on the Auckland market.
