BIG RIVER RESULTS
Big River has advised the Wellington Stock Exchange of th- following results for the period July 14 to August s:—Battery crushed 325 tons of ore for 1790z 9dwt melted gold obtained by amalgamation only and of tho estimated value, taking. gold at 120s per line ounce, of £1075. Wifley concentrators saved during the period 2 tons lOcwt, worth approximately soz of gold per ton. In addition 200 tons of coarse sand were treated at the cyanide plant. But tho clean-up will not take place until the end of August. MOUNT ISA MINE. Mining Trust, Ltd., and American Smelting and Refining Company, which between them hold upwards of £1,500,000 of debenture stock of Mount Isa, Ltd., have agreed, without any consideration except the payment of current interest, to defer for five years the commencement, of the redemption of debentures 'hold by them.' Other holders of debenture stock are now being approached. This announcement was made last week in a statement issued by Mr. J. P. Blaikie Webster, director of Mount Isa Mines, Ltd. Mr. AVebster stated there was only one way to .regard the action. Mount Isa had been further aided to the extent of £1,500,000 for five years. It showed in a very concrete form the confidence that had been engendered in overseas investors, and it was a remarkable tribute. CHARLESTON SLUICING. The mine, manager of the Charleston Sluicing Company, Ltd., reports as follows, under date July 19:—Tunnel: Driving finished, and true to line and grade. Paving will be commenced on Monday, and is expected to take two weeks. The goldsaving tables will be complete at approximately same time as paving of tunnel. The water races are all finished to "saddle," approximately 90 chains from penstock. Though the races are in fair order from the saddle to the penstock, the work to be done is by way of enlargement. It is intended to finish "shires" first. This will be completed in about two weeks. Sluicing will probably be carried out before the other race for this 00-chain stretch can be completed. BOOM IN EARLY DAYS. "A new lead of gold has been found at tho Woolshed, and two reefs of a promising character have been discovered near the Canada Bush. During the month of July, the applications at the Land Office, Dunedin, have been rather considerable. The total quantity applied for was five thousand one hundred and twelve acres, and the number of applicants, fifty-five. — "Otago Daily Times" of August 7, 1802.
