VERY DEAR ONES: It was splendid that you all liked the Animal Page so much. I confess I liked it too, for its long-leggedy beasties and jungly look—-fairies simply weren't in it, were they, last week? And I liked your paintings; too. There were not so many as usual . . . perhaps because the picture-to-paint needed ever so much patience and, care ... but nearly all those that came were very good indeed. In the twelve-to-fourteen class, indeed, there are two prizewinners, for both paintings were equally well done, though their colours and frames and finish were different as could be. So the Postie will call upon . . ■' "Daughter of Flage" (16) Kelburn. "Merry Pal" (14) , '.'<.' ~ City. "Waterbaby" (13}' .....' Kilbirnie. "Carolina Moon" (11). Brooklyn. "0-Kiss-Me-San" (8) Miramar: The next-best were made by ; "Sunny Tennessee"; and. "Shadow ■Pixie."1 Both need to remember that light and shade are important in painting. Among the litlle elves, "Polbywinkle" and "Busy Bee" both did neat, pretty work, but not quite so good .as the very best,'although theySvere only a few points behind.
