DUNEDIN MAYOR'S SCHEME
REVIVAL OF INDUSTRIES
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) V "DtJNED'ik/i'liis Day. ' A public meeting last night endorsed a local housing scheme propounded by the Mayor (the Eev. Mr. C6x), which he intends to submit to the Government and the City Council. He proposes tho building of 300 houses at, a cost of £900 each. Tho• purchaser would insure himself for £700, repay the loan by weekly instalments of 25s over 20 years. lie could reduce a loan for a house' costing £450 by paying 12s 6d a week. The scheme would mean an expenditure in wages of £90,000, and would employ"6oo men for a year on full-time work. It would create employment for 600 other workers in various activities. Mr. Cox said ha estimated that £175 would be required for furniture, and this would mean tho employment of another 150 men for a year. Ho estimated that WOO1 men would bo restored to industry by 'building 300 houses at an outlay of £330,000, and, ho said he proposed to ask the Unemployment Board to contribute £30,000 and the City Counpil £10,000.
