HISTORICAL EVENT

An event of historical importance is taking place at Patea this aftornoon, when a handsome Turi memorial canoe, fashioned out of stone and erected in commemoration of Turi, tho ancient Maori navigator, ac.d , his,, fellowvoyagers, who took part in the Polynesian migration to Aotcaroa in 1350j is being unveiled by the' Hon. J. A, Young. ; . , . The occasion attracted a large assembly of Maoris and pakehas. As part of the proceedings there is a procession through the town, hakas,* poi dances, games, and other entertainments by tho Maoris. '. . A message from Lord Bledisloo says: "May all success attend your historic assembly and may it help in cementing even more closely the brotherhood of Maori and pakchn. and fostering th« pride of the former in its race and its traditions.'? _ _ .... ~
