WOMAN WHO SPENT FORTUNE

HECTIC EXTRAVAGANCE

SYDNEY, July 30. After two years' mystery relating to her financial affairs, Mrs. Aimee Belle Edols is at present confined to a dobtors' prison for refusing information concerning a largo sum allegedly received from property in Victoria. Accounts have now been filed with ( the official receiver.- These show that not loss than £56,000 was received by Mrs. Edols between 1926 and 1931 and all was spent during that period. Some of tho items are as follows:— Betting losses, £17,000; dresses, £4000; entertaining at golf clubs, £2000; florists, £400; jewellery, £500; theatre parties, £2000; taxis, £1250; living expenses, £4000. Nearly half of the receipts, over £27,000, came from her husband, who is now himself bankrupt.

Mrs. Edols near the end of 1932 was sentenced to six months' imprisonment for contempt of Court in refusing to disclose certain facts concerning her financial position. She told the Judge that neither she nor her husband had any money put away.
