COSTER BALL SUCCESS

EXCELLENTLY ORGANISED

Tho phenomenal success that met tho efforts of those organising tho "Coster Ball" last Friday night will undoubtodly result in a very large cheque being handed over to tho funds of the City Mission Men's Shelter. Seldom lias Wellington scon such an example of thorough organisation, both in tho weeks preceding the ball and on tho night itself, the result being extremely gratifying to all concerned. During the course of the ball bouquots*were presented to Mrs. Knos Gilmer and Mrs. Herbert, who were at the head of the large band of active workers.

,Making their headquarters in a shop on Lambton Quay, which had .been generously lent to them for five weeks, Mrs. Knox Gilmcr and Mrs. W. E Herbert, and their executive and sub committees launched a campaign of advertisement and organisation which left no detail to chance. Stocked with goods, tho shop did excellent business, and once a. week a cake day was held Guessing competitions brought in extra money, and donkey parados through the streets aroused keen interest.

Further money %va» raked by the sale of the "Coster News" and its "Supplement" (issued at tho ball), edited by Mr. Beau Shiel, and by many other original and successful means.

The prize for the best woman's costume, which was announced as having been won by Mrs. Allport, was won by Mrs. W. Olphert, of Lower Hutt.
