CARTERTON DAIRY STOCK
Wright,. Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., report:—We held our weekly sale at Carterlon on Friday, when we offered a big entry of dairy cattle and pigs and a small entry of sheep to a good attendance. We. offered Mr. J. H. ■ Roberta's very select dairy herd, and these elicited keen competition as follows:—The; top , price for cows was £7, and, the line averaged £5 19s 6d;.the top price for heifers was £6 10s. Another, line averaged £5 3s. Most of the' other dairy stock offered met with a dull sale, only the best sorts creating competition. . Fat and store cows made good' money and realised values well up to late rates. Sheep'sold well, and pigs were about the same as last week. Sheep: Fat lambs, to 19s; Cattle: Springing cows, £5 ss, £sil2s 6d, £6 7s 6d, to £7; late calvers to £3 ss; springing heifers, £3 15s, £3 17s 6d, £4 12s "fid, £5 17s 6d, £6 17s 6d,.t0, £6 10s; fat cows, £2 to £2 12s 6d* fwd. cows, 255, 30s, to 38s; empty cows, 15s, 16s,'18s, to 225. Pigs: Weaners (small), 6s, 7s, to 7s 6d; weaners, 8s 6d, 9s, 10s, 10s 6d, lls, 12s to 13s; slips, 14s 15s, 17s; light porkers to 245; porkers, 27s 6d to 30s; sows to farrow, £3 10s.
