SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.
The programme to be presented by the Wei-* llngton Symphony Orchestra at its concert on TliursUay evening has been chosen with the object of providing music that will appeal to all tastes. It would bo a mistake to assuma that the concert is only for "highbrows." The policy of the orchestra is to popularise-orches-tral music and to give the best performances possible. The "Peer Gyut" Suite of Grieg, is a firm favourite, with its descriptive and colourful music and its brilliant climax, "In the Hall of the Mountain King." The overture, "Sakuntala," Is sure to make an instant appeal because of its delightful suggestlveness . of. r the Eastern. Tills number, with the majestic organ concerto of Rheinberger, will be notable becaus* they will bo first performances in Now Zealand. Tho grand organ will be played by Mr. C. W. Kerry, with full orchestra. The "Pathetic" Symphony of Tschalkovsky sires tremendous1 scope for interpretation, and it is expected that, there will-be an outstanding performance of this remarkable work. Mr. Harisoti Cook, Wellington's popular basso, will be the soloist. He will sing two fine arias from Mozart o\wr;is, with full orchestral accompaniment.
