SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION
TEACHERS' EXAMINATION
Five out of the ten candidates who sat for the teachers' examination held by (he Wellington Sunday School Union on July 20 were successful in winning a teachers' diploma, which is awarded to these gaining 7.j yw cent, or more of marks. The .successful candidates were:—Mr. Erie U. Hcggie, Waiwetu Methodist, 00 marks; Mr. Arthur G. Gunn, St. James' Presbyterian, 80; Miss P. M. Wood, Nelson Daplist, 81; Mr. F. W. Thomson, Nelson Baptist, 81; Mr. Thos. Haydon Cole, Nel^ son Baptist, 70.
Mr. T. B. Strong, M.A., who conducted the examination states that in his opinion the teachers had a good Biblical knowledge. The chief weakness displayed was the lack of knowledge as to how a lesson should be planned and developed. He recommended the Sunday School Union to endeavour to institute "refresher" courses with the object of giving teachers training in teaching methods. It would bo well also, he thought, for the teachers to make themselves acquainted with the geographical background of the lessons given. Attention, top, might be given to the underlying meaning or significance of the teaching implied .in the parables of Christ.
